30+ Years of Agricultural Communications Experience
Audra Kalvar grew up on a diversified farm in west-central Illinois that produced hogs (farrow to finish), beef cattle (cow-calf and feeders), wool sheep, dairy goats, chickens, horses, yellow corn, soybeans, wheat, timber and hay. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a major in Agricultural Communications/Advertising. She has previously been the co-editor of the Illini Agri-News, agriculture and business beat reporter and features writer for the Jacksonville Journal-Courier, and a Cooperative Extension Service, Information Service writer at UIUC.
Kalvar is also a member of the Alpha Zeta and Gamma Sigma Delta Agricultural Honor Societies. During her
4-H career, she was selected as a National 4-H Congress Delegate and was the National 4-H Council Dairy Goat Scholarship winner.
Since 2019, she has served as an ex officio board member for The Saddle & Sirloin Portrait Foundation - The Livestock Industry Hall of Fame in Louisville, KY.
She currently manages Masten Family Farms in Illinois - a small row crop operation producing yellow corn, soybeans and hay.
In her spare time, she raises Katahdin sheep and chickens on a mini farm nestled in the hills of Southern Indiana. She also serves as the manager of the Southern Indiana Throws Club, serving youth track and field athletes.
